Why Ensō?

The Ensō is a sacred symbol in Zen Buddhism representing absolute enlightenment, emptiness and the state of mushin or "no mind".  No-mind is the experience of being fully present, letting go of attachment and mental clutter. It is a state of flow.  

An open Ensō represents imperfection, freedom, and growth.  The closed Ensō represents perfection, completeness, and unity.  

The philosophy behind Ensō is how we aim to show up as dancers and in the community. 

Why we do what we do

Our mission is to build the dance community. We aim to live this mission by making dance events easy to find, and support local artists and event organizers in process. Together as community builders, we hope to create inclusive spaces where dancers of all backgrounds and experience are welcome.

Our Story

Dance has been an important part of my life from my earliest days dancing the jitterbug with my father as a small child, to later DJ'ing at dance clubs in the early 2000's. After moving to Columbus in 2016, I found my people in the Afro-Latin, West Coast Swing and Ballroom communities. By 2018 I was an ambidextrous Kizomba and Zouk dancer, and beginning my journey as an ambassador and educator in the community. 

Coming from the tech industry with a background in software engineering and product management, I decided to put those skills to use when I started organizing my own events.   As a solo operator, there really wasn't anything to met my needs that wasn't fragmented and cumbersome, so I rolled up my sleeves and got to work solving the problem myself.  What started with a printed sign that between myself and my co-host had QR codes for all the major payment platforms, became a rudimentary online form with a link to our payment processor, and has evolved little by little into the site you are visiting today. It's early days, but we aim to make the features we develop available to the members of our community as we mature. Our vision is to serve the dance community by creating "one stop shop" for finding, attending, promoting and hosting events.
